International Business Growth in Hong Kong

South Korean shipping company, Cido Shipping, announced in August the relocation of its headquarters to Hong Kong. According to the President of Cido Chipping, Mr Hyuk Kwon, the strategic move will enable the company to benefit form Hong Kong’s leading position as an international shipping hub. He said that the company would have easier access to a variety of professional shipping-related services, including ship finance and management.

Cido Shipping’s Hong Kong headquarters will also be responsible for co-ordinating business with the company’s other operations in the region, including its ship management companies in Tokyo and Seoul.

Japan’s Fukui Prefectural Government opened its first independent office in Hong Kong in August. The new office will address the increasing need for consultation brought by the rapid economic development in China and throughout East Asia. Fukui’s previous representation in Hong Kong was established in 1991 as part of the common office of the Japan External Trade Organization.

The Director of the Fukui Prefectural Government Hong Kong Office, Mr Yoshikazu Kitagawa, said the Hong Kong office would play a strategic role in helping Fukui’s growing industries to expand and exploit overseas markets. He said Hong Kong “plays a key role in helping us understand the situation in our target markets, in particular, China and East Asia.”

Meanwhile, CNN’s has chosen Cyberport as the filming location for its new program, “Spark”. The monthly show will cross the globe to look at how business, technology and people intersect.

Cyberport is a platform for content creation, management and delivery. It operates a multi-million dollar Digital Media Centre for the creative digital multimedia industry in Hong Kong. Cyberport’s vision of people, technology and business integration is in line with CNN’s objectives for “Spark”.
