An international tourism forum will take place in Hong Kong in July  in conjunction with the World Tourism Organization. The Boao Forum, the first large-scale, post-SARS tourism event, is expected to attract more than 1,000 attendees from 50 countries.

Hong Kong’s Secretary for Economic Development & Labour, Mr Stephen Ip, said the forum’s objective is to find ways to revive tourism in Asia.

Mr Ip said that more than HK$400 million has been set aside to help boost tourism through promotional activities in 28 countries and advertisements in major newspapers worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) Executive Director, Clara Chong, said the board is conducting market research in 15 places to study tourists' impressions of Hong Kong and their consumption habits, to enable to the board to formulate its publicity strategy.

In addition, Airport Authority Chief Executive Officer David Pang said the authority will launch a promotional package with Cathay Pacific to bring back transfer traffic, which makes up one-third of the airport’s overall business.
