A series of the best works by acclaimed film director John Woo will be
showcased in a Hong Kong Film Festival, held June 27 to July 6 in
Toronto.
A joint presentation of the HKETO and the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater
Toronto (CCC), and with the support of the Royal Ontario Museum, “Gems
from Asia’s Hollywood - A Retrospect of John Woo" aims to illustrate
the development of Hong Kong’s film industry. The showing of 7 Woo
masterpieces will enable Canadian viewers to appreciate the unique qualities
of Hong Kong films and to recognize the achievements of its film industry
professionals.
The film festival also marks the 6th anniversary of the establishment of the
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Speaking at a press conference, the HKETO Director, Mrs Rosanna Ure, said,
“By bringing the earlier work of John Woo to Canada, we hope our Canadian
friends can have a better understanding and appreciation of the development
of this talented director and, through him, catch a glimpse of the evolution
of Hong Kong from a low-budget local film production base to a major film
exporter and a city whose talents enjoy worldwide recognition in the
international film arena."
The Hong Kong Film Festival will also light up movie screens in Calgary and
Vancouver, in mid- and late July, respectively. Ming Pao and Fairchild Media
Group are the events' media sponsors.
All ticket holders are entitled to a lucky draw for two economy class air
tickets from Toronto or Vancouver to Hong Kong, 5 nights accommodation in
Hong Kong and a special tour package, courtesy of Cathay Pacific Airways,
Hong Kong Tourism Board and Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel.
