Hong Kong Free of Monkeypox Infection

Following an outbreak of monkeypox infection in the United States, a spokesman for Hong Kong’s Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said there has been no report of the infection in Hong Kong.

The American outbreak is associated with contact with ill prairie dogs, a species of mammal which is not native to Hong Kong.

“All mammals imported to Hong Kong require a permit from the department, and no prairie dogs have ever been permitted to enter Hong Kong," said the spokesman. As a precautionary measure, import permits will not be issued for prairie dogs from the United States for the time being.
