Long known as the
Hollywood of East Asia, Hong Kong is set to celebrate its cinematic stars
with its own version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The
Avenue of Stars, which will run along the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront
promenade, will be completed in mid-2004. Nominees will be selected by the
Hong Kong Film Awards Association and its 10 member organizations. Each film
personality chosen will be honoured with a plaque.
Milestones, sculptures, greenery, kiosks, rest facilities and special light
will also be built along the walk, and regular activities will be organized
to enhance its appeal.
“The Avenue of Stars builds on the fact that Hong Kong is rightfully one
of the world’s major film exporters and producers, and is home to many
world-renowned film stars and professionals," said Hong Kong Tourism Board
Chairman Selina Chow.
