Connecting to Career Opportunities in Hong Kong

HKETO Director Mr Bassanio So (left, 1st row) sharing a lighter moment with the Toronto participants at the 4th cross-Pacific video conference on career opportunity in Hong Kong. A cross-Pacific video conference brought together more than 500 university students in Canada to learn more about exciting career opportunities in Hong Kong was recently held in Vancouver, Toronto, and London in Ontario.

Now in its 4th year, the annual video conference has grown in popularity, as evidenced by its expansion from two to three locations, with the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario joining the event this year.

Growing interest in a China career among a range of ethnic groups has prompted organizers to present the conference in English, instead of Cantonese, to accommodate more English-speaking students.

The conference connected the Canadian youths to human resources and career experts in Hong Kong and Vancouver who provided useful advice on career development in various sectors, as well as the latest information on Hong Kong’s job market.

The event was organized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Canada, jointly with the Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau (CITB) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

HKETO Director Mr. Bassanio So said the conference responded to the needs of the many Canadian students who “believe that working in Hong Kong for a few years will help their career development and allow them to learn more about China – the future global economic powerhouse.”

The students’ prospects are further bolstered by the fact that, as Mr. So pointed out, “The HKSAR Government wants to encourage more foreign-trained talents to ride the wave of economic success in Hong Kong, and to play a role in the economic integration between Hong Kong and China.”
