Hong Kong "In the Palm of Your Hand"

PCCW and AsiaWorld-Expo team up to provide next-generation IT&T services for global exhibitors and visitors. With the launch of the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) version of the Leisure Guide for Business Travellers, the Hong Kong Tourism Board has literally put essential information on shopping, dining, sightseeing and entertainment in the palm of business visitors' hands.

The new electronic guide, which is available for free download and features a user-friendly interface, interactive search engine and language guide, is one of the "2006 Discover Hong Kong Year" promotional strategies. It aims to provide high-yield business travellers with instant access to information that will encourage them to explore new facets of the city and extend their stay and spending.

The guide has been tailor-made for business travellers said HKTB Executive Director Clara Chong. “It is also believed to be the first PDA guide that offers so many comprehensive and user-friendly functions and is free to download."

The PDA guide has a search engine which can direct users to restaurants, events, performances and over 5,200 shopping and dining outlets accredited under the Quality Tourism Services (QTS) scheme.

Another breakthrough feature is the digital map, which covers the whole of Hong Kong and includes all points of interest, shops, restaurants and tourist attractions. Users can zoom in from city overview to major streets and buildings, and even see their locations relative to each place, if the PDA is equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) device.

Human voice demonstrations of Cantonese phrases commonly used for greeting, bargaining in markets and ordering in restaurants can also be accessed.

The PDA edition of the Hong Kong Leisure Guide for Business Travellers is available in English and traditional and simplified Chinese. Visitors can download the application free at http://www.DiscoverHongKong.com/pda
