 To mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR, the Asian Business Network Association (ABNA) launched its “Chinese Canadian Legend 2007” celebrating the "Hong Kong Spirit", with the theme "Never give up ever Spirit - the Inspirational Essence Spanning Hong Kong and Canada". The event is supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Canada.
Since its inception in 2000, Chinese Canadian Legend has honoured individuals who have made significant contributions to the community. Senator Vivienne Poy and HKETO Director Mr. Bassanio So are the Honorary Patrons of this year's event.
The recipients of Chinese Canadian Legend come from all walks of life and various sectors, including business, politics and community services. Their credentials are not based on position, status or wealth, but rather on their ability to create a better society through their generosity of heart and their ability to illuminate the path to achievement despite the trials and tribulations along the way.
Speaking at the launch press conference, the Director of HKETO, Mr. Bassanio So, said that the plight of the Chinese Canadian was akin to the plight of Hong Kong itself and he considers it appropriate to support the event.
