To commemorate the legacy of Asian Canadians and their outstanding contribution to Canada, the month of May was designated by the Government of Canada as Asian Heritage Month in 2002. To acknowledge the long and rich history and heritage of Asian Canadians as well as to celebrate the beauty and wisdom of all Asian cultures, an International Photo Competition open to all photographers around the world has been organised as one of the projects in honour of Asian Heritage Month 2006.

Organised by the Canadian Foundation for Asian Culture (Central Ontario Inc), the photo competition, divided into the general and Hong Kong categories, accepts entry subjects related to Asian heritage, culture, festivities and multi-culturalism.
