Strong Response for Asia World-Expo

SCIT John Tsang (3rd left) says that the Expo would consolidate Hong Kong's strengths and its position as the leader in multi-media business.

The new international exhibition centre at the Hong Kong International Airport, Asia World-Expo, has announced extensive bookings for 2006 onwards, putting the venue in the position of generating an operating profit in its first full year of operation.

“With the positive and overwhelming response we received from the local and international exhibition and event organising community, we are delighted that Asia World-Expo is strengthening Hong Kong’s position as Asia’s leading trade fair hub,” said Mr Nicholas Borit, Chief Executive Officer of Asia World-Expo Management Limited.

Mr Borit said that 12 major international exhibitions had already been confirmed for 2006, many of which will become recurring annual events.

Global Sources Ltd will launch its major trade shows that will take all the space at Asia World-Expo in spring and fall 2006. The WorldWide Retail Exchange, which represents 64 of the world’s largest retailers, has endorsed the new China Sourcing Fairs in Hong Kong, which are expected to bring many new exhibitors and buyers to Hong Kong.

Hong Kong’s Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr John Tsang, said, “The excellent response to Asia World-Expo so far, and favourable projections for the future, have enhanced Hong Kong’s position as the premier location for international exhibitions and events in the region.”
