Alan Hoo, Chair of the Basic Law Institute, and member of the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee (Convenor of the Working Group on Overseas Community) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region today (Thursday) met with the business sector, Hong Kong community, and the media in Toronto to brief them the key provisions in the Basic Law and the principle of “One country, two systems” and how they have been implemented in Hong Kong.
Mr Hoo attended a breakfast roundtable hosted by the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association; gave a luncheon speech to Chinese community leaders, and briefed the Chinese media the key provisions in the Basic Law. Mr Hoo would meet with Toronto-based Members of the Parliament from different parties tomorrow whereas the highlight of his visit would be a lecture entitled “The Joint Declaration, Basic Policies and the Basic Law” organized by the University of Toronto’s Asian Institute at the Munk Centre.
