A second rail link between Hong Kong and Shenzhen is symbolic of the economic, political and human connections between these two locations.
At the recent opening of the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line and Futian Port, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr. Henry Tang, described it as an excellent example of co-operation between the two places and the first of many cross-border infrastructure projects to come.
The new rail line will help relieve congestion at other land boundary crossings and cater for the increasing cross-boundary traffic demand.
Mr. Tang said Shenzhen and Hong Kong had been working closely to adopt measures to ensure the smooth flow of people and goods, as well as promote social and economic ties.
The 7.4km spur line running from KCRC Sheung Shui Station to LMC Station provides a direct link to Lok Ma Chau Terminus. Fitted with 136 counters at the immigration hall, the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point will be able to handle up to about 150,000 passengers a day.
