Alan Hoo Talks Basic Law in Toronto

Lively discussions about the Basic Law, the “One Country, Two Systems” and how they are implemented in Hong Kong were initiated by the September visit of Mr. Alan Hoo, Chair of the Basic Law Institute, and member of the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, as well as the Convenor of its Working Group on Overseas Community.

Mr. Hoo met with Canadians from many walks of life, including business people, members of the Hong Kong community and the media. He attended a breakfast roundtable hosted by the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association; gave a luncheon speech to Chinese community leaders, and briefed the Chinese media about key provisions in the Basic Law.

Mr Hoo also met with various Toronto-based members of Parliament and presented a lecture entitled “The Joint Declaration, Basic Policies and the Basic Law” organized by the University of Toronto’s Asian Institute at the Munk Centre.
