Jointly organized by the Association of Chinese Arts &
Literary Contest for Youth and the Ontario Society for Chinese
Education, the theme of this HKETO-sponosred event ”Hong Kong
Cup” slogan writing contest
“Go Hong Kong Go” was to reflect: Hong Kong’s
achievements since its return to China in 1997; the
resilience of the Hong Kong people and their “never give up”
spirit; the “Pearl of the Orient” continues to display
its wisdom and creativity; and the Bauhinia (Hong
Kong’s flower) blossoms into ever-lasting prosperity.
Winners of the contest will be announced latest by
June 30, 2010.

Canada Celebrates Hong Kong 2010

A series of Hong Kong promotional events jointly presented by
the HKETO and the Hong Kong Tourism Board brough an array of the
city’s attractions to the city of
Mississauga, Markham, Toronto and
Montreal. The January event in Sqaure One “Hong Kong
Comes to Mississauga” kicked off a series of Hong Kong-themed
events “Hong Kong Comes to …” staged in Markham, the Greater
Toronto Area, and Montreal in February and March. Activities
staged featured Hong Kong as Asia’s events and culinary capital, as
well as highlighted its role as an international financial centre,
and a cultural city in the region.

Hong Kong Seminar: “Listing and
Capital Raising in Hong Kong for Mining and Natural Resources
Companies”

Co-organized by the Hong Kong Exchanges and
Clearing Limited, Hong Kong Trade Development Council,
Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office and Invest
Hong Kong, this seminar targeted mining and natural resource
companies planning to raise funds in Hong Kong securities market —
one of the most active and liquid markets in the world.
Participants of the
seminar received pertinent information and market insights from
a panel of Hong Kong speakers on ways to leverage the Hong Kong
securities market as their fund-raising platform in Asia.
Special guest speakers were: Prof K.C.
Chan, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, The
Government of Hong Kong SAR, and Ronald Arculli, Chairman of
HKEx.

Breakfast Seminar

Kong, spoke at this
breakfast seminar held at InterContinental Hotel Montreal (360
Saint-Antoine Street W., Montreal).
Participants of this event learned about business opportunities
in Hong Kong and upcoming major projects in the city;
gained knowledge on how overseas and Mainland Chinese companies use
Hong Kong to expand their business; and had an opportunity to
network with other businesses interested in the Hong Kong and
Chinese markets.

thriller “OVERHEARD” at the TRAIFF

Film Festival Opening Night screening, HKETO was pleased to
present Hong Kong’s latest thrill “OVERHEARD“.
Directed by Alan Mak and Felix Chong, and starring Lau Ching-Wan,
Louis Koo and Daniel Wu, “OVERHEARD” is a suspenseful drama on
three cops torn between money and justice.

Business luncheon on “Hong Kong’s
Legal System & International Links: Your Springboard to China
and Asia Pacific Region”

luncheon event, visiting Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region Government, Mr WONG Yan Lung, SC,
gave an update to some 160 guests on Hong Kong’s international
links, legal system, intellectual property protection regime, its
regional dispute resolution services, arbitration involving
Mainland China parties.

Orchestra charity concert raised $20,000 for Hong Kong Veterans
Commemorative Association

A charity concert entitled “Let There Be Peace On Earth” has
raised a total of CAN$20,000 for the Hong Kong Veterans
Commemorative Association. The funds will be used to support the
building of a
Hong Kong Veterans Memorial Wall on which the names of the
1,975 Canadian men and two women who served in defence of Hong Kong
during the “Battle of Hong Kong” at the Second World War were
etched.
